Foreign Production of Apparel

Many more maternity clothes manufacturers are having their clothing sewn in another country for a fraction of the price they'd have to pay an American worker.

This is why foreign manufacturers (just read your clothing labels) can offer bargain maternity clothes.

Just try and remember when you bought an article of clothing that was made in the USA. Read the labels on your clothes and you'll see that most all clothing is made overseas.

It is sad to say but there are hardly any clothing manufacturers left in the USA, including maternity clothes manufacturers.

Clothing made in the USA is very rare. If you want to support our economy, buying clothes that are made in the USA will help some people keep their jobs.

Finding maternity clothes manufacturers can be a task in itself. Most companies that manufacture their own product, sell it themselves.

Just try and remember when you bought an article of clothing that was made in the good ole' Us of A. Read the labels on your clothes and you'll see that the vast majority of clothing is made overseas nowadays. It is sad to say but there are hardly any clothing manufacturers left in the USA, including maternity clothes manufacturers.

Unfortunately, that is what has happened over the past couple of decades. Clothing made in the USA is very rare. But if you want to support our economy, buying clothes that are made in the USA will definitely help some people keep their jobs.

I have been in the apparel industry for a long time. Starting in New Bedford, Mass. at Cliftex Corporation, where they make men's suits, there were many sewing contractors in New Bedford and Fall River, Mass.

Textiles and sewing was the main industry there since the Whaling Industry took a dive after the invention of the light bulb.(Whale oil is what they used to put in the lamps...remember?)

Simply put, it was a good 100 years old and a thriving industry.

I'd travel back and forth to the different sewing factories, checking the quality control of the garments and then go into the "city" (New York) to meet with the designer.

After moving to Florida because my dad became ill, I worked in the fashion industry in Miami. Companies started going out of business in the early 90s and dropping each year like flies. At that time, there weren't many maternity clothes manufacturers anyway.

Then I heard that the factories in New Bedford and Fall River, Mass, were closing up. These were huge businesses that had been around for a hundred years! They found it extremely "more cost effective" to manufacture overseas.

It didn't quite matter where, because anywhere the labor costs were so low, and companies could save a ton of money. And that's what happened.

Now, we have hardly any clothing manufacturing in the United States, and even fewer maternity clothes manufacturers, as that is a smaller segment of the market.

Another problem with supporting overseas manufacturing is that they don't have any labor laws and treat their workers very poorly and pay them very low wages. In effect, by buying clothes made in other countries, you are supporting the abuses that the companies inflict upon their poorest people.

Thanks for buying wholesale and supporting workers in the USA!

Now, we have hardly any clothing manufacturing in the United States, and even fewer maternity clothes manufacturers, as that is a smaller segment of the market.

The problem with buying clothes made in another country is that you are supporting overseas manufacturing. They don't have any labor laws and treat their workers very poorly, pay them very low wages and make them work long hours.

Even children as young as 7 are working long hours. Consequently, by purchasing clothing made in other countries, you are supporting the abuses that the companies inflict upon the poorest people of their country.

But you are helping by buying clothes made in the USA, as it keeps workers here working and does not give work to the people who abuse worker's rights in other countries!
